Three major West Coast poets to share their words tonight

Poetry lovers will be at the Off Center Stage in Grass Valley tonight at 7:30 to hear the following poets, major contributors to the West Coast literary scene, read their works: Joyce Jenkins, Daryl Chinn and Richard Silberg.

Jenkins has received many honors as a poet and is editor and publisher of “Poetry Flash,” a Poetry Review & Literary Calendar for the West. See her work at http://www.speechlessthe magazine.org.

Chinn, poet and a poet-teacher for the California Poets in the Schools, has published limited editions of chapbooks about food, family and the edge of the senses. Equally interesting is that Chinn teaches Chinese cooking and speaks the old Chinese dialect that he learned from his grandmother and passed down to his children.

Of Silberg, who is associate editor of “Poetry Flash, it’s known that of his three books, one, “Deconstruction of the Blues,” was honored with a 2006 PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Literary Award.

Says Bill Gainer of the Nevada County Poetry Series, “These are the shoulders the aspiring need to lean against.”

Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5 general, seniors and students, and $1 for those under 18. Refreshments and open-mic included. The theater is behind The Center for the Arts, at 315 Richardson St. Call (530) 432-8196 or (530) 274-8384 for more information.
