Dudley Thompson

Dudley Sawyer Thompson, 81, of Grass Valley died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in Grass Valley.



In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. Burial was at the United States Veterans Cemetery in Fernley, Nev.

Mr. Thompson was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Imperial Valley to Reuben Frank and Cornelia Elizabeth Thompson. He attended Eagle Rock High School in Eagle Rock and St. Mary’s Academy. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He married Marie Nov. 5, 1945. He worked as an electrical advertising salesman. He enjoyed playing the piano, writing songs and stories, jogging, weightlifting and card games.




He is survived by his daughters Gayle Jeffrie Thompson of Grass Valley and Joyce Sortland of Colfax; former wife, Marie Thompson of Colfax; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Sarah Marie and John Biebl and Getchen Laura and Seth Kielas, all of Truckee; grandson, Jon Lee Sortland of Truckee; niece and nephew-in-law, Andel and Leroy Kobus-Sheard; nieces Lisa Baney and Lynda Morgan; nephews and nieces-in-law Chris and Carol Haben, Ron and Millie Morgan and Tom and Brenda Morgan; and nephew, Mark Thompson. He was preceded in death by his father, R. Frank Thompson; mother, Cornelia E. Thompson; brothers Morton Thompson and Grahm Thompson; and sisters Ann Cornelia Baney and Patricia Hall.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
