The Union, Elks sponsor annual essay competition

Attention senior high school students from Western Nevada County public high schools: Feb. 10 is the deadline for your entries in the Northern Mines “Real Women” Creative Writing Competition.

The 12th annual essay competition will be in celebration of National Women’s History Month, March 2003. Senior students have been asked to write about a specific woman who is living today in our local area.

What makes this woman important to others? What makes this woman important to the student? What contributions has she made to our community?

These are a few of the questions posed to the students. The woman they write about could be a friend, relative or a woman from the community they feel they would like to interview and learn more about her accomplishments.

The essay competition is co-sponsored by the Grass Valley Elks and The Union. This year’s awards dinner will be March 31, at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge.

For more information or to make reservations call Dee at 273-0257 or Gail at 272-2141.
