The Union divisive

It’s encouraging to see The Union doing in-depth reporting in its own backyard for a change. However, the recent series of articles, editorials and columns on Bruce Conklin and the North Star property have the effect of using a bazooka against a gnat. The Union has raised some legitimate questions, but its monomaniacal, day-after-day drumbeat on the subject is looking like a targeted smear campaign against one individual.

Judging by the quality of the daily product, The Union obviously has limited editorial resources. By devoting so much time and space to this single issue, the newspaper is sacrificing reporting on other important stories. Plenty of more egregious examples of cronyism, nepotism and abuses of the public trust are out there waiting to be reported. A fair, balanced newspaper would cast a wider net.

This county is polarized enough without The Union’s divisive editorial decisions.
