‘The Nerd’ performance benefits adoption agency

A performance of Foothill Theatre Company’s “The Nerd,” benefiting Sierra Adoption Services, will be Tuesday at the Nevada Theatre.

The nonprofit Sierra Adoption Services matches foster children – the majority of whom have been abused, neglected or abandoned – with permanent adoptive families. More than 1,000 Northern California foster children have been adopted since the agency formed in 1983.

Tuesday’s benefit begins at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by Sierra Adoption Services representatives and an adoptive family. The comedy is at 7 p.m., followed by a reception with Foothill Theatre Company actors and Sierra Adoption Services representatives.

While admission is free, donations will be accepted for Sierra Adoption Services. A silent auction will be in the theater lobby.

“The Nerd” is about architect Willum Cubbert, whose life goes downhill when a socially inept comrade from Vietnam visits. Rick Steadman, the house guest, becomes a liability as he says and does the wrong things, especially around Cubbert’s clients. Cubbert and his friends behave strangely to drive Steadman away but Steadman matches them until he makes the wrong impression on Cubbert’s biggest client.

The Nevada Theatre is at 401 Broad St. in Nevada City. For more information on the benefit, call Sierra Adoption Services at 478-0900.
