The first woman Vice President

I remember in 1984 the excitement I felt when Walter Mondale choose Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. She had national experience as a Congresswoman and really represented my progressive, feminist views.

Today, I am appalled at McCain’s choice as his running mate, Sarah Palin, for the following reasons:

She said the war in Iraq was “God’s task.” She has actively sought the support of the fringe Alaska Independence Party that wants secession from the union. She wants to teach creationism in the public schools and not sex-education and questions humankind’s contribution to global warming. She is extremely anti-choice when it comes to abortion, even in the case of rape or incest and she lied about the Bridge to Nowhere. She supported it in 2006.

We do not need more right-wing, anti-science, anti-woman’s right to choose, idealogue in the White House without any foreign policy experience whatsover. I have waited this long for a female Vice-President. I can wait a lot longer for a candidate I can admire and trust.
