A new musical show, “The Fireballs!…(It’s a Girl Thing!),” will run over Memorial Day weekend at Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.

The show, produced by LeGacy Presents, stars LeGacy’s Sue LeGate-Halford, along with Nancy Haffey, Dawn Simmons, Krista Thomas and Kim Wellman on vocals.

Traveling from Stockton is keyboardist/vocalist Stephanie Damilano.

LeGate-Halford said the idea for the show came together during a holiday celebration last year.

“We literally were just having a party (a little cinnamon whiskey was present!) when we all just realized how darn much fun it would be to do a show together. This is five women who come from all different kinds of musical and theatre backgrounds, different fortes and genres of music. How crazy to think we could mesh it all into one show!”

Some having worked together here and there on stage, but never all together, the idea took hold, after the whiskey let go.

“Over the next couple of weeks, we realized how much we really wanted to do this.” says LeGate-Halford.

The show runs 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St., Nevada City.

The show features a wide variety of hits from such diverse artists as Alanis Morisette, Sonny & Cher, Olivia Newton John, Linda Ronstadt, the Ronettes, the Chiffons, Janis Joplin and Sheryl Crow, among many more.

The show’s back up band. in addition to Damilano, includes LeGate’s husband, well known guitarist/vocalist Dave Halford, Jonathan Lyerly on lead guitar, Larry Casserly on bass and Nevada County’s virtuoso drumist John Basa.

“This has been a challenge for all the band members, but we are having a blast!,” Dave Halford said. “When else do you get to play hits ranging from the 1940s all the way to current day? The girls chose the music, and they did a good job. No matter what genre of music you dig, you will find something you like in ‘The Fireballs!’”

Tickets for “The Fireballs!..(It’s a Girl Thing!) are $20 in advance, available at the BookSeller, Harmony Books, online at legacypresents.com or by calling (530) 268 5419. Reserved seating available only through box office.
