The blues lives and breathes 5 miles away

If you enjoy the blues, this is good news: 5 Mile House is launching an ongoing schedule of this great genre of music on weekends, including Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to midnight and Sunday afternoons from 2 to 6 p.m. (see schedule).

Thom Myers, president of the Sierra Blues Society, helped set this up. He says about the concept: “We’re doing a variety of blues styles, from deep in the delta to urban blues, and we’re making stops at contemporary R&B, swing and rock’n’ blues, too. Our kick-off weekend – Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3 – will highlight the scope of this philosophy with a local act, Blue Farm, on Saturday and the legendary Frankie Lee on Sunday.” Lee, by the way, recently garnered two Blues Music Award nominations from the Blues Foundation 2007: Soul Blues Album of the Yea” and Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year.

A shuttle service is available for those not wanting to drive to the restaurant, which is located at 8851 State Hwy. 20, Nevada City (about 5 miles out of town). Call (530) 470-8849 or e-mail for more information, or go online at http://www.5milehouse .com. Contact Myers about the music at (530) 268-9166 or thom_myers@sbbmail .com.

Stayed tuned for more about expanded entertainment transport throughout the greater Grass Valley and Nevada City area, which Myers is working to establish.
