The bigger issue

I recently accepted a challenge from Nate Beason to host a neighborhood get-together in exchange for the opportunity to press him about where he stands on various issues affecting the citizens of Nevada County. All the current issues, such as growth and SDAs, housing costs, traffic, drugs, NH 2020 and fire prevention, to name a few, came up during the course of the evening.

However, what impressed me the most was Nate’s recognition of the larger and more perverse problem facing the county: polarization at the board of supervisor level and subsequently down through the county employee staff. This division is known by many names, right vs. left, developers vs. tree huggers, property rights vs. public domain, good old boys vs. environmentalists, and the list goes on and on.

It was Nate’s understanding of this larger and more difficult issue which really got my attention and will finally get my vote. Nate Beason has the proven leadership and management skills to build a unified team on the board of supervisors. Closing this great divide would empower county employees with the authority to match their responsibilities and begin the process of resolving our county government stagnation.
