Teens welcome for music at CoffeeTown

Gypsytown Music, a local collective of musicians headed up by Adrienne Spring Beatty, is setting up a summer music series of sweet listening nights at CoffeeTown in Grass Valley for June, July, and August, bi-monthly on Tuesdays.

Gypsytown Music aims to provide local young people with more all-ages music in the area and simultaneously promote independent artists of Nevada County and their music-playing friends from other cities who wish to tour here.

I play in the duo Coal Beautiere with Arthur Echternacht. We performed in Europe this past winter and noticed a difference in the focus of the listening audiences, even in big cites like London.

There were signs up in more than one gig that said things like “Wanna talk during the performance? Please go outside.”

People were glued to the performers in a way that seems rare in California.

I wanted to bring that focus of music appreciation back with me. I hope Hear Tell Summer Spells does just that.

Trish Farrow, the owner of Coffee Town, hopes that music events like Hear Tell Summer Spells will bring the teens into her establishment and make the summer just that much more exciting for everyone.
