Teen gets year in jail on burglary charge; robbery charge dropped

Jason Michael Baldwin

A teen facing robbery and burglary charges has pleaded no contest to a residential break-in and was sentenced last week to a year in jail, prosecutors said.

Jason Michael Baldwin, 18, pleaded in June to the burglary accusation, leading prosecutors to drop the robbery charge. Judge Candace Heidelberger on Friday sentenced Baldwin, said Chris Walsh, assistant district attorney.

“I believe it was an appropriate resolution, in light of the defendant’s age,” Walsh said. “This gives him the opportunity to straighten out his life.”

According to court records, Baldwin and an unnamed person were accused of breaking into a Julia Ranch Road home on March 26. He allegedly had a baseball bat as he stood over his victim and threatened to take his Xbox. The pair left with the game system and some food.

Baldwin’s robbery charge, dismissed by prosecutors, stemmed from a May 6 incident on Race Street. Police said at the time that Baldwin was driven by a woman — later identified in court records as Avery Noelle Wick, 21 — to a home on that street. Baldwin then took items from a man before leaving in Wick’s vehicle.

Arrested weeks later, Wick still faces a robbery charge, records state.
