The Bay Area’s Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums with Miss Carmen Getit will help the Foothills Swing Society celebrate its first anniversary Saturday at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building.

For a year, the nonprofit society has held monthly dances for all ages in Grass Valley.

The band will provide jump-blues and 1940s and ’50s R&B music from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Some of band leader Steve Lucky’s compositions have been featured on ABC-TV’s “General Hospital,” The Learning Company computer games, a Nissan Motor Corp. TV commercial and Showtime’s “Chris Isaak Show.”

David Frutos and Kim Cleaver, 1999 U.S. Open Champions of swing, will judge a dance contest with a $200 first-place prize.

Admission to Saturday’s dance is $15 in advance and $17 at the door for adults or $12 in advance and $14 at the door for children under 16. Tickets are at Adrianna’s, BriarPatch, Harmony Books and the door. The vets hall is at 255 S. Auburn St.

A lindy hop dance workshop will be from 2 to 5 p.m., also at the vets hall. Attendees should already know lindy basics.
