Sutherland for G

Measure G would generate $44.4 million for construction and renovation projects at the Nevada County campus of Sierra Community College. Over an eight-year period, these projects would include the expansion of firefighting and police training grounds to improve fire and life safety training, the upgrade and increase in classroom and laboratory capacity for a wide range of courses, and the expansion and upgrade of the student services center to include an academic advisement center and other critical support.

Based upon median real estate appraisals in Nevada County, the average taxpayer would pay about $35 per year. This would be money well spent.

Sierra College is the only public higher education institution in Nevada County.  The construction projects will benefit the local building trades and the economy.  Improving the level of public education will ensure that there are adequate job training facilities for our community, so that more public safety personnel may be trained and certified.   Measure G will allow the college to offer more courses to residents for better jobs in a changing economy, and to improve and expand distance-learning courses for residents in rural areas.

Please join me in supporting Measure G.
