Suspected Wells Fargo robber arrested

A Smartsville man has been arrested in connection with a string of bank robberies, including the March 4 robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank inside Raley’s Supermarket in Grass Valley.

Shawn Victor Webber, 35, was arrested Thursday after investigators from the Grass Valley Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, Chico Police Department, Yuba County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation – Chico Field Office identified him as a “person of interest” in connection with this robbery and similar robberies in Chico and Lincoln.

This information led investigators to a location in Smartsville, where additional evidence and corroborating statements of witnesses confirmed Webber’s role in these crimes.

While Webber was being investigated, he allegedly robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in a Bel Air supermarket in Yuba City. He was subsequently stopped by a Butte County Sheriff’s Deputy near Oroville and arrested.
