Superior Court judges endorse two candidates

Nevada County’s six Superior Court judges announced today they are endorsing two candidates in the six-way race for judge.

They consider Tom Anderson and Ray Shine “the two most highly qualified candidates” running in the primary, set for June 6.

The two candidates have very different backgrounds.

“Tom Anderson has done a superb job as the Public Defender of Nevada County,” the judges wrote in a letter dated May 23. “He … has been an advocate and supporter of other specialty courts. He is an excellent lawyer and has demonstrated an ability to work together well with others.”

“Ray Shine has been an excellent attorney in private practice,” the letter continues. “He enjoys a well-deserved reputation for his legal ability. He has been active in the local bar association and a variety of civic organizations.

“Each of these gentlemen would bring a variety and depth of experience that will enable them to effectively fulfill the important responsibilities of being judge,” the letter concludes.
