Suffering is a joy for EMT

The Eric McFadden Trio (a.k.a. EMT), primarily a heavy rock band, also does some flamenco and jam. The band’s latest recording, “The Joy of Suffering,” was named “the best and most original guitar recording of the year” by Guitar Player Magazine, which goes on to say, “The overdriven tones McFadden conjures by amplifying an ancient Gibson archtop (as well as a classical nylon string) are as unique as his Gypsy-jazz-inspired trills and carnival-noir tales of sin and redemption. His gruff, Tom Waits-like vocals fit perfectly with the dark and haunting nature of the material.”

EMT shows its stuff at Cooper’s in Nevada City on Saturday, July 14. The fun starts at 9 p.m., and the cover is $5. Go online at http://www.emtmusic.com for more about the trio; reach Cooper’s at 265-0385.
