Students will host celebration of mural completion

Carol Feineman

Students in Gary Graham’s mural arts class will host a public celebration Saturday for the just finished first of four historical-themed murals in the cafeteria-student center.

“All this is done in just one semester. It’s amazing that the students could design all four murals and finish one mural,” Graham said proudly last Saturday as his class members put the finishing touches on the wall.

The completed mural provides a visionary view of the Gold Country, according to the teacher.

The next mural will take a more environmental approach, depicting the area’s fauna and flora. The remaining two walls will feature the area’s more prominent buildings such as mines, churches and libraries.

Graham expects the other murals will be finished by next year.

About 20 students are in the first-ever mural class offered at Sierra College, Graham noted, and are there to gain skills for a job in interior design or another branch of decorative painting.

The celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. includes refreshments and music.
