Squeaker school board race hangs by one vote

A seat on the local high school board hangs by one vote, with incumbent Corinne Parilo leading challenger Mary Anne Davis by 2,223 votes to 2,222 votes.

According to final election results posted on the Nevada County Elections Office Web site, Parilo earned 49.81 percent of the vote, while Davis got 49.79 percent. The results cover all 20 precincts in Trustee Area 1 of the Nevada Joint Union High School District.

The results may change as the absent, provisional, and damaged ballots are counted starting Thursday. By the close of business on Friday, County Clerk-Recorder Kathleen Smith is expected to announce the number of ballots left to be counted.
