Square dance weekend returns to fairgrounds

For anyone who enjoys square dancing or for those who want to learn more about the genre, the Associated Square Dancers of Superior California has the perfect weekend planned this weekend at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

The nonprofit organization, which promotes square dancing, round dancing, country western and line dancing, clogging and contra dancing in seven Northern Californian counties, will sponsor the 37th annual Fun Weekend Friday through Sunday in Grass Valley.

All weekend events are open to the public to watch at no charge. In addition, a free “introduction to square dancing” program in which audience members will learn dance steps is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds’ Main Street Center (near Gate 1).

The weekend’s featured callers are Tim Pepper from Redlands and “Jumping Bean” Scot Byars from Sacramento. Featured cuers are Virginia and Bill Carpenter from Piedmont and John Flora and Delores Ferrero from Los Gatos.

The fairgrounds is at 11228 McCourtney Road.

Call Bonnie Abramson at (916) 213-3640 or Bob Kamuf at (916) 359-5167 for more details about the annual “Fun Weekend.”
