RUNNING: Resolve2Run joins Gold Country Grand Prix, offers healthy way to start new year

Since 2013 hundreds of runners and walkers have been celebrating New Year's Day with the Resolve2Run 5K/10K/Walk, a picturesque jaunt through Chicago Park.

This New Year's Day will be no different as the annual event is gearing up for its sixth installment, but it has added a new wrinkle.

The Resolve2Run 5K/10K is now a part of the Gold Country Grand Prix and will mark the first race of the 2018 season.

"They have been running an excellent race for a number of years," said Gold Country Grand Prix President John Fairchild. "There is a lot of enthusiasm for it. I've run it a couple times myself. We're excited to have them on board."

The course starts and ends at Chicago Park School, taking runners and walkers along a mostly paved path surrounded by serene country landscapes.

"The course goes winding through the Chicago Park area where you have beautiful pastures and fields," said race director Sandrine Milanello. "It's just very calming and beautiful."

The event also raises funds for several good causes such as the Chicago Park 4-H Club, which dates back to 1929 and is the oldest continuously running 4-H Club in California. Funds are also raised for the Chicago Park School PTA and The Chicago Park Firefighters Association.

Last year the event raised nearly $2,500 for each of its causes.

This year the race has also put an emphasis on getting young runners and walkers to join in on the healthy start to the new year.

"We want people to look at this as a family event," Resolve2Run sponsor chairman Sue Ramey said, noting the price has been lowered for participants under the age of 17. "We want to encourage more youth to get out and exercise."

The cost to participate is $25 for adults and $12 for anyone 17 years or younger. Online registration and mail in registration is still open and there will be day of registration available. For more information or to sign up visit http://resolve2run.com.

"People should expect an invigorating race," Milanello said. "When a group of 200-300 people get together like this with the same goals of being healthy and exercising, it's really exciting and a great start to the year."
