Sponsored obituary: John Abney

John Joseph Abney, 83, passed away on February 27, 2006 in his home in Colfax, CA.

Born in Moorestown, New Jersey on May 18, 1922, John spent his early years on the east coast. He entered the U.S. Army in 1940 as an enlisted man and retired from the service as Major on August 1, 1963. He joined the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and was a lifetime member of post 2003. Following his years in the military, John worked in the insurance business and did security for the Silicon Valley. After retiring, John and his wife, Terry, moved to Colfax where he worked for the Chamber of Commerce. During his retirement, John spent many years perfecting his culinary skills to the delight of his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Terry Abney, six children, Patrick (Diane) Sisler of Grass Valley, CA., Shane (Lisa) Sisler of Boise, ID., Darrell (Debbie) Sisler of Fremont, CA., Timothy (Beverly) Sisler of Jacksonville, FL., Scott Sisler of Salida, CA., Christie Sisler-Martinez of Sacramento, CA., and eight grandchildren.

Special thanks to John and Denise McLaughlin for their care and friendship during Mr. Abney’s retirement years in Colfax.

A private memorial service was conducted by the family members.
