Spearhead closes West Coast tour

Michael Franti
ALL | GrassValleyArchive

Eighteen days after starting his tour in Nevada City, Michael Franti returns Sunday with Spearhead to close his West Coast tour.

This latest show was added after the Jan. 29 concert at Miners Foundry Cultural Center sold out.

Again, Tre Hardson, formerly from The Pharcyde, will open the funky hip-hop show at the Foundry.

Both Franti and Hardson write songs of social and political commentary.

Franti has been issue-oriented in whatever group he’s in, starting with the Beatnigs from 1987-90, Disposable Heroes of HipHoprisy from 1990-94 or Spearhead since 1994.

Hardson has done the same since 1989, when he wrote socially conscious songs with rappers The Pharcyde for 13 years.

Sunday’s admission is $25. Advance tickets are at BriarPatch, Herb Shop Records and Harmony Books, or by credit card by calling 583-2801.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and showtime is 9 p.m.

The Foundry is at 325 Spring St., Nevada City.

Call 583-2801 or 265-5040 for any questions.
