Soloist to showcase classics

Pianist Zofia Antes will play works by Mozart, Chopin and Brahms on Sunday at Miners Foundry Cultural Center.

The solo concert begins at 2 p.m.

This is the second of three concerts in the Gold Country Piano Institute’s spring concert series. The institute is a nonprofit educational organization that offers two weeks of intensive classes annually in Nevada City for classical piano students from the states and abroad.

Since 1998, Antes has taught at the Frederic Chopin State School of Music in Warsaw, Poland.

Dr. Pawel Skrzypek is chair of the piano department there and founder of the Gold Country Piano Institute here.

Antes won first prize in the All-Polish National Piano Competition, organized by the Frederic Chopin Society in Warsaw, in 1998.

The final concert of the series on May 10 will feature 10 Gold Country Piano Institute students at the Foundry, 325 Spring St., Nevada City.

Tickets for Sunday’s concert are $10 general and $5 for students. Tickets are at Harmony Books, The Book Seller and Odyssey Books.

Call 274-1438 to buy tickets by credit card or for information.
