Social service mini-grants up for grabs

The county has several mini-grants available to assist non-profit social service groups with programs for the poor.

Nevada County’s Community Development Agency will accept applications after July 9 when funding from the Community Services Block Grant Program becomes available.

Each mini-grant is limited to a maximum of $10,000 for a two-year funding cycle.

The grants are designed to “build self sufficiency for families and individuals,” said Nina Bigley, housing program manager for the county.

The county is seeking new groups that offer help with rental and food assistance to the poor.

“We always encourage new organizations to come forward,” Bigley said.

Groups can apply on line at or call for an application at 265-7254.

Organizations who need help with the application can attend an application preparation/ orientation workshop at 9 a.m. July 18. Applications must be returned by 5 p.m. Aug. 17.

Mini-grant awards will be announced by November 7 but won’t be available until after the first of the year.
