‘Snow Falling on Cedars’ takes regional award

Three theatrical productions from western Nevada County took top honors in the Elly Awards, Northern California’s answer to the Oscars.

“This was a grand night for our Nevada County theater companies,” said Jeannie Wood, of Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra, based in Nevada City.

CATS’ production of the prize-winning story, “Snow Falling on Cedars,” won Best Overall Production in a Drama, honoring the entire cast and crew.

“Cedars’ also took the prize for Best Lighting Design, by Chris Goetzke, and Best Set Design, by Pam Hodges and Michael Baranowski.

“Into the Woods” by Sierra Stages and Center for the Arts won Best Lighting Design in a Musical, for lights by Erin Brighting.

“Cyrano De Bergerac” by Paul Emery Presents took won Best Costume Design for costumes by Sharon Olson.
