Snow advisory to last into late evening

The National Weather Service announced at 2:30 p.m. that a snow advisory for the Sierra foothills will continue until 10 p.m. this evening.

The weather service office in Sacramento said the snow level was at 3,500 to 3,000 feet, but colder air is expected to move in late this afternoon dropping snow levels to 2,000 feet in the foothills of the Sierra.

Heavier snow showers this evening could dump a possible 2 to 4 inches in western Nevada County, the weather service said. Four to 7 inches of new snow could fall at the higher elevations, with the snow showers tapering off as the evening progresses.
