SNMH’s PR director reads at Poetry Series

Gary Cooke changes gears Friday night when he reads at the Nevada County Poetry Series in Grass Valley.

Cooke is the public relations director for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

“I love to try to develop my own voice and reflect the world as seen through my eyes,” Cooke said. “We all have a unique voice; mine expresses itself through poetry. Poetry is immediate and of the moment. I truly enjoy the form.” On Friday, he will read poetry covering a 30-year period.

Other guest readers will be Jerry Martien and Kathryn Napier Stull. Martien has been a poet and activist in the Humboldt Bay region for 30 years. Stull is assistant editor of Hip Pocket Press and taught art at Bear River High.

An open mike will be before and after the readers at Center for the Arts, 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley. Admission is $7 general and $5 for seniors and students. Call 477-4724 for information about the 7:30 p.m. event.
