Smear letters

There are many partisan letters written to The Union that appear to be for one purpose only. That purpose is to smear an opposing candidate’s good name with hearsay, innuendo or outright lies.

“Opinions” are stated as “fact” and those “facts” aren’t even close to the “truth.” This divisiveness will only serve to feed the bottomless pit of polarization.

Let us stop insinuating, assuming and declaring guilt by association. Let’s stop the polarization! Let’s talk issues. One candidate and one candidate only has always, always opposed Deer Creek Park II and supported the South Yuba River Wild and Scenic designation. In a recent debate, only one candidate supported the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, without reservation.

This candidate pledges sensible growth (this does not mean “no growth”), affordable housing and to abide by the General Plan. Pledges to listen intently to the voices of “all” her constituents (thus curbing polarization) while working to make neighborhoods free of fire and traffic hazards. Has repeatedly advocated shopping locally.

One candidate won the popular vote in the last election and will not waver when she is elected District 1 supervisor in the runoff. That candidate is now, and always has been, Olivia Diaz.
