Smartsville stabbing suspect remains at-large

Ethel Thomas

Nevada County authorities say they’re searching for a woman they say stabbed a man Monday morning at a Smartsville home.

Ethel Thomas, 27, is wanted in connection with the stabbing in the 12000 block of Shepard Road. Thomas is accused of attacking 47-year-old James Oaks, who called authorities around 8:10 a.m. to report he’d been stabbed, Lt. Robert Jakobs said in a release.

Thomas was gone when deputies arrived, he added. Authorities have no motive for the stabbing.

“There is no reason to believe there is any threat to the public at this time,” the sergeant said in a message.

Stabbed once, Oaks was taken by ambulance to a Marysville hospital. He was in stable condition Monday afternoon, the lieutenant said.

Authorities have requested a search warrant for the Shepard Road home. They’ve also issued a be-on-the-lookout for Thomas, Jakobs said.

Thomas is described as a white woman, standing 5-foot-8-inches. She has blonde hair and hazel eyes.
