The Placer County Sheriff’s Office received a call Sunday morning about a plane crash that killed two passengers.

At 12:30 a.m., PCSO received a call from California Office of Emergency Services to assist in the search for a possible downed aircraft near the Auburn Airport, said a press release by PCSO.

Commercial airliners confirmed a distress signal from an aircraft’s emergency locating transmitter.

The accident site was located by the CHP’s fixed wing and a deputy PCSO, who was equipped with a handheld radio programmed with the distress signal information.

The airplane wreckage is a single-engine airplane, and two occupants were confirmed deceased.

No additional information was available as of press time, but check back with The Union for more as it becomes available.
