Six running for GV council

Six candidates have officially qualified for the Nov. 4 Grass Valley City Council election, according to City Clerk Kristi Bashor.

Anyone else interested in running must pull nomination papers and turn in at least 20 valid signatures of registered city voters by 5 p.m. today.

If those signatures are verified by the Nevada County elections office, the candidate will join incumbent councilwomen Janet Arbuckle and Lisa Swarthout and new hopefuls Ed Yarborough, Yolanda Cookson, Terry Lamphier and Rachel Rue in the race for three seats.

Mayor Mark Johnson did not file by the incumbent deadline Friday, which extended the nomination period for his seat until today.
