Simply a Tea Party rally?

I am greatly disappointed to see The Union and KNCO joining with the Nevada County Tea Party Patriots in a candidate forum on April 1. The Tea Party has clearly shown itself to be partners with Sarah Palin and fellow Republicans, hardly a non-partisan position.

As media that reaches many folks in our county, I would think The Union and KNCO would strive to be neutral and non-partisan, at least until the editor and general manager decide to endorse candidates and issues, as is their editorial prerogative. Until that time, it is the responsibility of media to sponsor events that present issues and question candidates evenly and without bias, as the League of Women Voters does each election period.

As is the case with the League, events are entirely free (no donations requested), open to the public and have the full representation of the local media, including KVMR, YubaNet and NCTV.

This forum appears to be an example of “stacking the deck.” I hope the Tea Party and its sponsors will rise to the occasion in making this assembly civil, respectful and fair, and not turn it into a Tea Party rally.
