Sierra Montessori Academy closing on Oct. 31

Sierra Montessori Academy will be closing at the end of the month.

The news comes from Sierra Montessori Director Jennifer Dearduff, who also teaches at the school.

Over the last few years, the student population hovered around 140 and dropped to 40 this school year.

“You can’t run a school too long on such low enrollment,” said Dearduff.

The dual director and teacher said she plans to send an email at 10 a.m. this morning to notify parents about the change.

“We’re heartbroken here,” said Dearduff. “We just love our students, and we’re a family here. It’s definitely a hard time for parents and kids, and we just want to make the transition as easy as possible.”
