Showers forecast, snow at 2,000 feet tonight

A storm is expected to bring showers to the Nevada County foothills today and tonight with colder temperatures that could lead to icy conditions Tuesday morning.

Showers are expected from late morning through tonight, with a mostly conditions Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento. Snow is expected at 4,500 feet this afternoon, which could make travel treacherous on mountain passes.

Snow levels are predicted to drop to 2,000 tonight as foothill temperatures dip into the upper 20s. However, the precipitation will be winding down in the evening hours and the foothills are expected to see only or two inches accumulation.

Up to six inches of new snow is possible in the higher elevations.

Sunny skies are expected again Tuesday, but showers are likely again Tuesday night and Wednesday with a chance of snow at 3,000 feet.
