Seeing is believing

I have attended live theater for more than 50 years, Foothill Theatre Company productions for 29 years and have known Gary Wright since he arrived here. My wife and I attended FTC’s production of Gary’s original play, “Evermore,” at the historic Nevada Theater. Wow! Kudos to Gary for a brilliant play and to the cast and company. Direction, acting and set were first class; you knocked our socks off.

The first FTC play we saw was “Macbeth,” in the side theater at Miner’s Foundry. It remains my gold standard for that masterpiece (thanks, Fetterlys). We have seen several plays presented by both FTC and Ashland, Ore.; FTC’s ticket prices are half those in Ashland for the same excellent productions.

Ashland, a mecca for West Coast theater aficionados, has a 50-year history that has made that town successful. Nevada City is 20 years behind in timeline and a half a century behind in community support, but equivalent in quality and talent. We are a serious arts center; the sooner we embrace that, the more western Nevada County will prosper. Shopping locally includes the arts.

Go see Evermore, and you will see what I mean.
