See the movie, stay and talk

Says Janie Kesselman of the Peace Center Film Forum, “Lately we’ve been having some really inspiring after-film discussions!” With that, the Forum announces that Monday at 7:30 p.m. it will show “Pete Seeger: The Power of Song” at 316 W. Main St., Grass Valley (upstairs at The Center for the Arts’ annex).

This documentary gives testimony to the consistency of Seeger’s beliefs throughout a long and turbulent career. Banned from network television, he produced folk music programming for public TV. He didn’t quit The Weavers when they were blacklisted for their leftist politics, but he did quit when they did a cigarette commercial. Lots of concert footage showing a range of artists, including Woody Guthrie, Paul Robeson, Bob Dylan and Elizabeth Cotton. Hear the People’s troubadour belt out “Waist Deep in the Big Muddy” and watch him organize neighbors to turn around pollution in the Hudson River.

Admission is $4 – $10 donation, no one turned away. Call 273-4030; e-mail; also online at
