Season of nonviolence events set for this weekend

Lonnie Valentine, Ph.D., a Quaker theologian and Peace and Justice professor, will present a lecture and two workshops Friday through Sunday.

Friday is a free public lecture titled “The Power of Compassion: NonViolence Never Fails” from 7 to 10 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Grass Valley, 236 South Church St. Festivities will start with a presentation of the Spirit Drum Circle and will conclude with a social hour.

Saturday, an all-day workshop titled “The Spiritual Basis for Peacemaking in Our Time” will include creating strategies for achieving peace locally and globally. It will be held at the church mentioned above, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; $20 includes a light breakfast and lunch. Contact Sandy Kewman at 272-3736 or Genevieve Baird at 333-4259.

Sunday, a free workshop on the Quaker Peace Testimony will be held at the Grass Valley Friends Meetinghouse, Sierra Friends Center, 13075 Woolman Lane, Nevada City, starting at 12:30 p.m., after the Quaker meeting and potluck.
