Safeway begins remodel

Remodeling has begun on the facade and parking lot of the Safeway Lifestyles store located in the Gold Country Center.

Some asphalt has been removed and fencing has been erected in front of the store and around one-third of the parking lot to allow for construction.

“The parking is going to be difficult for awhile,” said project superintendent, Gary Ford from HBH Construction Inc.

The store will remain open during the three months expected to complete the project.

“It’s just going to have a little dust here and there,” Ford said.

Safeway opened the Lifestyles store several months ago in a building formerly occupied by Ralph’s Grocery Co.

Changes to the building will include raising a gabled roof at each entrance, installing a “sidewalk cafe” with outdoor seating, a stone planter and trellis, stone and wood siding to the building’s exterior, additional landscaping and reconfiguring the parking lot to makeup for space lost by the patio.

“They’re just dolling up the outside… We’ll make it a little more Rosevilly,” said Ford.
