Sacramento orchestra begins 11th season with Mahler’s symphony

Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra’s 11th season, A World of Music, begins Saturday, Oct. 13, with Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 5, at the Sacramento Community Center Theater, 1301 L St., at 8 p.m.

The concert will feature 22-year-old New York Philharmonic Associate Principal Trumpet virtuoso Matthew Muckey, a native of Sacramento. This is also a celebration of Maestro Michael Morgan’s 50th birthday, the orchestra’s leader for eight years.

A free pre-concert lecture is offered at 7 p.m., and members of the Sacramento Youth Symphony will perform in the lobby prior to the concert.

Single ticket prices range from $15 to $75. Tickets are available through http://www.tickets.com or by calling the Community Center Theater box office at (916) 264-5181.
