Robert Michael Ryan of Nevada City recently received his Eagle Scout award.

Ryan has served in Troop 24 as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and instructor. He started as a Tiger Cub in the first grade and continued on to earn his Boy Scout badge in 1994. In Cub Scouts, he earned the Arrow of Light award.

Born in Burlingame on April 29, 1983, he moved to Nevada City in 1985.

Ryan played on soccer and basketball teams for many years. In middle school, he participated in football and kung fu. As a freshman at Nevada Union High School, he competed on the cross country team. Ryan is a graduate of Seven Hills Middle School and NUHS.

While at NU, Ryan was an electronics technology student in the 49er Regional Occupational Program. His senior year, he was a student intern at ADC Telecommunications.

Ryan competed in the state competition for Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America, representing NU’s 49er ROP, where he won the gold medal. As a result, he represented California in electronics technology last June in the national VICA competition in Kansas City, Mo.
