Ruth Hughes

Ruth M. Hughes, 93, of Nevada City died Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Chico.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no services.

Mrs. Hughes was born Dec. 6, 1912, in Yuba County, to E.P. Gleason and Lydia Lee Bourne. She received a teaching credential form Chico State. She married George Hughes in 1936, in Chico. She taught first grade in Grass Valley retiring after 30 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Nevada County Travel Club, Retired Teacher’s Association, and the Native Daughters of California. She enjoyed watching wildlife, travel, baking, and working puzzles.



She is survived by her granddaughter, Kimberlee Leverett of Chico; niece, Jean Flowerdew of Willows; grand-niece, Stacey Flowerdew of Sacramento; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons Ronald and David Hughes; six brothers; and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society




Arrangements are under the direction of the Bidwell Chapel in Chico.
