Memorial services for Russell E. “Russ” Yorks of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge, 109 S. School St. in Grass Valley.

Mr. Yorks died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Kaiser Hospital in Roseville. He was 69.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1933, in San Francisco, to Thomas and Hilda Yorks. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. Prior to retiring to Grass Valley, he worked in Pacifica as a superintendent of public works. He was also a permanent reserve police office, as well as a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver. He volunteered 19 years of service to the Grass Valley Elks Lodge. He spent countless hours working at the lodge, helping children and needy families in Grass Valley. He was an honorary life member of the lodge. He was also a member of the Maintenance Superintendents Association of California. He enjoyed fishing, working in the garden and spending time with his family.

Mr. Yorks is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Chris, Corey and Katie (their husbands, Pat, Vic and Craig); George and David (and their wives, Diane and Lory); brothers Rangal of Milbrae, Myron of Pioneer and Frank of Orangeville; sister, Alvina Sprowl of Carson City, Nev.;13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
