RUNNING: Local woman earns 2nd place in age group ay NYC marathon

Local runner Makie Ohler competed in the New York Marathon, Nov. 1, finishing in a time of 3 hours, 11 minute, 39 seconds, to place second in her age group.

Ohler, who is a member of the local Trkac Racing Team, was only 2:01 behind Stephanie Hodge (3:09:38), who won the women’s 50-54 age group.

“We are extremely proud of this woman,” said Trkac Racing Team coach Clyde Lehman. “No matter what she does, whether it’s the world championships, the Boston Marathon or the New York City Marathon, she performs so well.”

Ohler finished 135th among all women competitors at the prestigious marathon, and 1,608th out of all competitors. There were more than 50,000 finishers in this year’s race.
