Rita Bloomdale

Rita Bloomdale, 87, of Grass Valley died Wednesday, Feb. 11, at home.

Mrs. Bloomdale was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Nevada City to Anacleto and Zeffira Agostini. She moved to Cement Hill with her parents and her four sisters when she and her twin sister, Rose, were 4 years old. She attended Indian Flat Elementary School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Nevada City High School in 1934 and from St. Mary’s Business College in 1935. She worked for the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department and also for Kneebone’s Chevrolet garage until it changed hands. She married John Bloomdale in 1939, and they lived in Sacramento for several months before moving back to Nevada City. She enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and crocheting.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Sandra Bloomdale of Auburn; grandchildren Ben and Janelle Bloomdale of Auburn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, locally and in Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband; John Bloomdale, parents; sisters Ann Fontana, Lena Riddle and Mary Gulartie and twin sister, Rose Casci.
