Respect for riders

In response to Donna Foote’s May 11 Other Voices column on OHV use and trail closures, it appears Donna has pre-judged all of the motoring public when she states that we “care little for the well-being of the forest” and we “need to raise our environmental awareness.”

Forming an opinion like this (let alone submitting it to the paper) without knowing all sides of the story is prejudiced and shallow at best.

The dedication and hard work that goes into maintaining the trail systems is usually performed by nonprofit groups and citizens that love and respect our national forests and desire to keep them accessible to all the public.

So maybe when I see you on the trail and I kill my engine (like I do for equestrians and hikers) and greet you with a smile, you’ll show me the same respect. Just a thought.
