Resents firing

As a voter and taxpayer in Grass Valley, I resent the handling of Gene Haroldsen’s firing. If City Council members and candidates were so unhappy with Mr. Haroldsen, why didn’t the issue surface until just prior to his personnel review? Why are contracts with department heads like Haroldsen kept secret from citizens when they are likely to cost us money in situations like this?

As Editor Jeff Pelline pointed out Feb. 22 in his First Person column, it is apparent the sick and vacation policy needs a review, as does the personnel policy, which, in the name of privacy, keeps the public unaware of sweetheart deals with public servants. Hey, City Council, that is my money being used to pay Mr. Haroldsen. I have a right to know how it is being spent. Don’t ever surprise me with a farewell package like this again and please don’t pass the buck onto those who held the council seats before you.
