Rescue efforts too late for blaze victim

A man believed to be Tim Hall perished in a fifth-wheel trailer fire Sunday morning in southern Nevada County, despite rescue attempts.

The trailer was on property on the 12000 block of Creekview Drive belonging to Brad Graves and Olive Graves.

Battalion Chief Spike Newby of the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District said he could not identify the victim after the blaze, but had a good idea of who it was.

Official identification of the body will done by the Coroner’s office, to make sure it is who it appears to be, Newby said.

Graves and his mother said at the scene that they assumed Hall, 53, was trapped inside when they heard and discovered the fire about 5 a.m.

“It appears to be an accidental fire,” Newby said. “All attempts to rescue the occupant were unsuccessful.”

The property owners awoke in their nearby home upon hearing the fire and rushed outside to find the trailer ablaze, Newby said. They ran to the trailer door, but it was locked and they could not enter elsewhere.

Arriving firefighters were told there was probably a man inside the trailer but couldn’t enter the fully-involved building until the blaze was contained, Newby said.

The cause of the fire also remains under investigation.
