Sixty-three youth and adults will be returning this weekend from a mission trip to Belize. They went there to build a school and do several vacation Bible schools, plus conduct an eye clinic. Future mission trips to Mexico and Belize will need volunteers skilled at construction and dental work. Call 477-5017 if you are interested in a future mission trip. Saturday services start at 9:30 a.m., with classes for all ages. The worship service starts at 10:40, and is followed by a vegetarian lunch at noon. Mountain Stream Meditation

Mountain Stream Meditation Center, a Buddhist insight meditation group, meets Monday evenings from 7:30-9 p.m. at Wild Mountain Yoga, 574 Searls Ave., Nevada City. On Monday, John Travis, guiding teacher of Mountain Stream, will give a dharma talk on “Renunciation.” A Sunday class in Insight Meditation with Debra Travis runs April 15 through May 13. Twin Cities Church

Join us this Sunday as we continue in our series, “Free.” The message this week is, “Free to Breathe: Liberated from Guilt.” Our grade school children’s core virtue for the month of March is friendship. Sierra Center for Positive Living

This Sunday, the Rev. Sandra Fairbanks concludes the series, “Yes, You Can Change the World.” Her talk is “A New Beginning.” Adult and youth services start at 10:30 a.m. at the Banner Grange Hall, 12629 McCourtney Road in Grass Valley. Word-A-Live! Church

Sierra Presbyterian Church

There will be a free concert, “Turn Your Radio On,” showing Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. This will be like an old-time gospel radio show.

Palm Sunday Morning Services are: 9 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., there will be excitement and fun for children at the Easter Eggstravaganza. Also on Sunday, there will be a “Sojourners Service” at the 5:15 CORE worship service, and part two of “The 5 Languages of Love” at the 7 p.m. generations class. Dinner for all is at 6:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and there will be children’s programs during all services.

Sierra Pines United Methodist Church

On Palm Sunday, our adult choir, Joy Unlimited, will share the Easter Cantata, the Rose of Calvary, under the direction of Noreen Barnett.

On Easter Sunday, Sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. followed by the annual Easter breakfast served by the United Methodist Men. Easter Celebration Services will be held at 9 and 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Don at the pulpit.

The Mission team to Dulac, La. reported an inspirational and successful journey. We continue to assist the homeless with Hospitality House. AA meetings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m.

Solid Rock Christian Fellowship

Our Sunday service starts at 11 a.m. with praise and worship. Senior Pastor Jim Edwards will be teaching from God’s word and how it applies to you in today’s world.

Grass Valley United Methodist Church

Palm Sunday will be on April 1. The traditional service begins at 10:30 a.m. At noon on Good Friday, we’ll gather with our brothers and sisters in Christ for worship at Emmanuel Episcopal Church across the street. Adult Sunday school classes begin at 9 and children go to theirs after the first part of the 8:45 family-oriented worship service.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church

The Liturgy of the Palms will be celebrated at the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services this Sunday. Father Richard Tumilty will celebrate and preach on “The Meaning of Sacrifice” at both services. Both the Liturgy of the Palms and the Eucharistic readings are based on the Gospel of Luke.

The last Lenten soup-supper will be held Thursday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a short program and Compline. The meditation following the meal is from “The Way of the Wolf” and features “Barrington Bunny,” Matthew Fox’s most well-known drama. Abundant Life Community Church

Join us this Sunday morning as we continue the series “Answer Me This … Questions that Jesus Asked.” Pastor Sam Floyd will bring the Palm Sunday message “Am I Not to Drink this Cup?” We worship together at 9 a.m. on Alta Street.

Pray Nevada County meets each Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. To pray for our county governments and services, schools and families, businesses and media and churches and parachurch ministries.

Good News Project

The Good News Project offers prayer for healing every Sunday. The hours are 7-9 p.m. at the Sierra Vista Covenant Church office at 10064 Streeter Road, Unit 5. Streeter Road is located one-quarter mile south of the Highway 49 and Combie Road intersection. Follow the sign to the rear of the building, where the offices are located.

Tri-Ward Relief Society Anniversary Celebration

The women’s relief society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated its 165th anniversary on March 17. To commemorate this historical event, a dinner and program was held March 22 at the LDS church at 615 Hollow Way in Nevada City.

Fire quickly contained near Blue Canyon


Firefighters responded Friday morning to a reported vegetation fire near Blue Canyon in Placer County, with just over an acre burned before the blaze was contained.
