Relief efforts for China and Myanmar

As the world watches in disbelief the devastation in China and Myanmar in recent weeks, people are compelled to make a difference.

While many worthy organizations have launched relief efforts, I am aware of one through my brother, Nelson Wong, who is a member of one of the oldest Christian churches in San Francisco’s Chinatown, the First Chinese Baptist Church of San Francisco (American Baptist).

Each year, the denomination takes an offering for their “One Great Hour of Sharing” campaign, which provides funds for disaster relief around the world.

In June, they are soliciting funds for this campaign. Members and nonmembers who wish to contribute may designate all their contributions to either the earthquake relief in China or to the cyclone relief in Myanmar, or a combination of the two.

If you designate China and/or Myanmar, 100 percent of your funds will go to that effort. If you do not specify, the funds will go to the general disaster relief fund.

Please send your contributions to First Chinese Baptist Church of San Francisco, One Waverly Place, San Francisco, CA 94108 and note “One Great Hour of Sharing.”

Thank you for your outreach, either through this organization, or through others.
