Reflecting on the Union’s pages

This is a letter of appreciation to you for supporting the fund drive for the libraries. That seems to me to be a very appropriate project for a community newspaper. In fact, my 45-year-old love/hate relationship with The Union has settled comfortably into contentment with Jeff Ackerman’s work since he took over as editor, as well as publisher.

When people we love and revere die, the notice is on the front page, where it should be. (Peace, Jimmy.) The opinion columns are mostly local, which makes them much more valuable. (Even more of those would be even better.) The letters verge between wise and weird, as do your readers, I reckon. Bob Wyckoff’s history coverage is absolutely wonderful for us older inhabitants, and Bob Crabb is the cleverest and funniest cartoonist I know. (Again, more would be even better.)

So thanks, Mr. A., and consider this an early valentine for all of you at The Union.
